The Queens of Drag: NYC
They’ll Flip Your Wig!
Acid Betty…
For six years, Acid Betty (Jamin Ruhren) has lived and worked in New York City as a graphic designer, as one of the most popular nightlife hosts, and as the self-proclaimed fiercest drag bitch ever!
Prior to claiming her stake in New York City, Acid Betty lived as a dancer and a marathon runner. Now, however, with clients of her professional graphic arts and web business spanning the gamut from French Connection to Bill Blass, and from Izod and Armani Exchange to Merrill Lynch and Details Magazine, she certainly has earned a respected place among business professionals.
But her success doesn’t end there. It continues in the world of drag, where Acid Betty puts her talents to work through makeup and fashion design. She is credited with some of the most outrageous outfits in the drag scene, while also earning opportunities to host fabulous events in the New York City nightlife circuit. She even enjoys the life of a former Reality TV star with her past appearance on Season Five of Project Runway. Acid Betty is also the host of New York’s annual Black Party, which is put together by The Saint at Large.
Epiphay Get Paid…
As the newest starlet on the NYC drag scene, Epiphany Get Paid (Calen Tomaszewski) has wowed audiences with her stunning voice, gorgeous back-up dancers, and a beauty that’s been labeled as incomparable to that of any other drag queen. In short, she’s a bombshell, harnessing the beauty of Marilyn Monroe and Rita Hayworth.
With a stunning vocal range, Epiphany is one of the only drag performers to sing with her own voice. As such, this all-American girl with a fantastic ability for live, staged performance is continuously building her fan base.
Coming from the sunny beaches of Southern California, she moved to New York City seven years ago and has yet to look back. Over this time, she garnered much success: In 2006 she was crowned Miss Fire Island, and in 2009 she earned the title of Miss Long Island. She has performed all over the U.S. in cities such as Chicago, St. Louis, San Francisco, Boston, and Washington DC, and international cities such as Berlin and Paris.
Having garnered the attention of New York City’s most influential and exclusive clients, she is ready to continue taking the drag world by storm! She currently works at live singing venues, enormous nightclubs, and finds time to perform at private events for organizations and individuals such as the British Consulate, Marc Jacobs, Rufus Wainwright, Kelsey Grammar, the cast of Project Runway, Susan Lucci, Iman, Aubrey O’Day, Lydia Hearst and the Hilton sisters. She also donates time to charity at AIDS Walk NY.
Epiphany most recently performed at The Black Party, Halloween Party, and Love Ball. She maintains her busy schedule by working at Club La Cage on the weekends, performing Tuesdays at Blonde Leading the Blonde at The Ritz, on Fridays she is live at Vig 27, and on Saturdays Epiphany performs at Club 57.
